Without tradition, art is a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Without innovation, it is a corpse

EXHIBITION REVIEW

You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970 at the V&A

The exhibition contained all possible things one could imagine related to popular culture, fashion, music, lifestyle and trends of the time. It was well structured but at the same time left a bit random impression as it was not completely clear why some things are included in the exhibition but other things are not. Why the Beatles and not another band or maybe several important bands? Why Twiggy – was she the only model that was popular? Why feminism and LGBT movement was mixed with Communism and military actions in Italy? Why so much emphasis on the use of drugs – was it the only force driving creativity? The part about the World Expo was a good one, showing all things that were made and considered new and modern. Interesting that the bits that I appreciated the most was the astronaut’s suit, guitars and the song ‘Imagine’ played in the end of the exhibition. The room dedicated to festivals was creatively organized but the screen took attention off information displayed around the room. Influences of Easter music and religion are worth closer research.
